The American Heart Association has issued an updated statement addressing renewal of Provider Cards and extensions during the COVID-19 outbreak. This guidance supersedes the guidance outlined in the March 13, 2020 document. In summary:

For AHA Provider cards expiring beginning in March 2020:
  • ​All AHA Provider cards will be valid for 120 days days beyond their recommended renewal date.

The American Heart Association has issued guidance addressing renewal of Provider Cards and extensions during the COVID-19 outbreak. In summary:

  • The AHA recommends that employers and regulatory bodies consider extending recognition of an AHA Provider Card beyond its renewal date, for up to 60 days.
 
  • The AHA recommends considering extensions of up to 60 days, but this recommendation could be extended based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat. 
​
  • Over the next 60 days, for providers whose cards have expired due to inability to complete training during the COVID-19 outbreak, the AHA will allow the Instructor to provide remediation during update courses.​​​

The Brevard Lacrosse Alliance was chosen as Heart of the Game’s next recipients of AEDs in part because of the work the Alliance, along with the Lacrosse association of sport safety and education “LASSE”, has done to raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest among young athletes. The organization had been fundraising to purchase an AED after local lacrosse player Colin Seely collapsed on a Viera High School field while running laps during ROTC. The Board and the volunteers at the association figured Colin’s incident hit too close to home, and they wanted to make sure they were prepared should another child suddenly go into sudden cardiac arrest.

Nice story from Diocese of Orlando on the progress that has been made since Phase 1 of their School Security Program began in May 2018. The article features the services we provide, "Life Safety Solutions is a Florida-based company that specializes in loss control, risk management, and safety and security services. The security team has been on the ground in Central Florida since May 2018 and has completed vulnerability assessments for 37 schools and early learning centers along with their parish communities."

Congratulations to the Publix employees who acted quickly to save a life! This is a "feel good" story from a Publix in St. Petersburg, FL. In March, when a customer in the store became unresponsive, Publix employees rushed to his aid, calling 911, giving chest compressions, and using their store's AED.

The customer, who is doing very well, recently returned to Publix, grateful to all the employees and emergency responders who helped give this story a positive outcome.

Congratulations Heart of the Game!
Heart of the Game is a non-profit organization that provides free AEDs and training to youth sports programs throughout Florida. In August 2018, HOTG presented their very first AED. The AED was given to Adam Charles, mentor and leader of a mobile youth athletic training camp for inner city kids ages 8-18. HOTG gave away this first AED in partnership with Life Safety Solutions. LSS president and owner, Dave Magruder, attended the HOTG presentation at Lincoln Park at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, and enjoyed the basketball skills demonstration put on by the enthusiastic youth players. Of the presentation, Magruder said, "It's important to have an AED accessible during sports practices and games, but the reality is, it's not always financially feasible. HOTG is providing a "life-saving" service in supporting these organizations. I was proud to be a part of giving back to the community in partnership with Heart of the Game."

When available and used quickly, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR help save lives, giving victims of sudden cardiac arrest the best chance for a positive outcome.

Recent tragic incidents in our schools have made school safety a priority for communities, administrators, parents and students. In response, the Catholic Diocese of Orlando of Central Florida has announced the rollout of a Parish and School Security Program. Life Safety Solutions has been selected by the diocese to carry out assessments for 40 schools and 36 parishes. After completing the assessments, Life Safety Solutions will present prioritized, site-specific recommendations, and provide crisis response training and drills.

​Dave Magruder, Life Safety Solutions President, states, "It is extremely unfortunate that current events make it necessary to address heightened safety and security issues. That said, we are impressed with the dedication of Diocese of Orlando in their efforts to prioritize the safety of its parishes and schools, and we are humbled to be selected to provide these additional services.

Life Safety Solutions - Helping Schools Initiate and Maintain Emergency Epinephrine Access
Life Safety Solutions is proud to help facilitate this program for our school clients in conjunction with our Emergency Epinephrine for Schools Program. Our program assists schools in initiating and maintaining a successful Emergency Epinephrine access program. We offer medical direction, training, assistance with procurement of auto-injectors, consulting on placement and storage, specialized access cabinets, monitoring of expiration dates and renewals, and semi-annual inspections and replacement services.

There are many documented instances in which an allergic reaction quickly became life-threatening for the victim. Maybe you have a friend or loved one who experienced a severe allergic reaction to something they had never before been allergic. Having emergency epinephrine available to give to the victim as quickly as possible, while awaiting emergency services, can sometimes be the difference between life or death.

​These programs make schools safer.
