Emergency Epinephrine Access Program - Schools
Program Background
Due to recent changes in Florida laws*, an emergency supply of epinephrine auto-injectors may be prescribed for and stocked at public and private schools, allowing for the treatment of a victim of a severe allergic reaction, especially in cases where the victim has no prior history of a severe allergy, and as such, does not have a personal prescription for an epinephrine auto-injector. In 2014, Life Safety Solutions, with oversight by our Medical Director, created the policy and curriculum for Anaphylaxis Awareness & Emergency Allergy Treatment in the school setting. This program was developed for a long-standing school district client of ours and included providing Emergency Epinephrine training for over 500 school teachers, and working with the risk manager to initiate and incorporate Emergency Epinephrine Policies & Procedures. In 2015, in addition to training and P&P, Life Safety Solutions, in partnership with our client, facilitated the acquisition of FREE emergency epinephrine auto-injectors through the EpiPen4Schools program (for qualifying schools), and procured emergency access cabinets and signage that were installed at each school. (See photo of cabinet and signage mounted at one of the school sites.) For this Emergency Epinephrine Management Program, Life Safety Solutions provides ongoing Medical Direction, training, and annual epinephrine auto-injector maintenance services. *2018 Florida Statutes - (381.885) - Epinephrine Auto-injectors, Emergency Administration
